with a driving acoustic
soul, fuzzed-out bass, a powerful rhythm section, and just
enough electric guitar, seven star can rock and entertain
almost any crowd with ease. brian vander ark (the verve
pipe) says "great tunes, great vocals, great energy.
one of the best bands i've seen in a long time."
the band consists of grant essig (vocals,
acoustic guitar), dustin keller (acoustic and electric guitars),
eric cooper (electric guitar, backing vocals), jaclyn mayer
(bass guitar), jeremiah miller (drums, backing vocals),
and was formed in february of 2001. seven star quickly made
a name for themselves playing all the tiny bars and dives,
working their way up to the finest st. louis venues (mississippi
nights, the pageant, UMB bank pavillion, cicero's, and others),
and then venturing out to tour the midwest. during that
time, they have had the priveledge of sharing the stage
with such major label artists as chicago, sister hazel,
sixpence none the richer, luce, lucky boys confusion, sponge,
blue october, brian vander ark (of the verve pipe), and
bleu.
in march of 2003, the band released
their second EP (superstar wraparound), to much praise from
peers and professionals. the tracks are full of energy and
life, capturing the feeling of the band's energetic live
show as best a recording can, which is difficult because
seven star is such a dynamic and versatile live band. every
show turns out different than the last, and with a sly sense
of humor to boot, the band keeps things fresh enough to
hold onto old fans while always gaining new ones.
with one of the best local websites
around, seven star keeps the entertainment going, even off
stage -- www.sevenstarmusic.com
offers various mp3 downloads, live show pictures, music
videos, funny videos, behind the scenes, and of course...
the cartoons. seven star has done something unique on the
web, by creating an animated online series, starring themselves
(as themselves, as well as assorted others) -- they create
all the voices, then draw and animate each episode themselves,
which always keeps fans coming back to see what's new.
"maybe you’ve come across
seven star unexpectedly, like i did. if so, chances are
you were amazed that a band this young, this new, this --
well, unsigned, unhuge, and altogether deserving to be both
-- could be this good." -- laura hamlett, playback
magazine
