The most asked question
of the past several months in St. Louis… “Who’s
that band that sings ‘Grounded’?” The
second-most asked question of the past several months in
St. Louis… “What the hell is a CAVO?”
Good questions… Now here are the answers…
In a nutshell, at some
point in late 2000, there existed a local band consisting
of guitarist Chris Hobbs, bassist Ryan Kemp and drummer
Chad LaRoy. In their long quest to find a front man, they
searched high and low in and around St. Louis, but to no
avail.
Finally, after much prodding
from mentors Scott Gertken and Rich Criebaum of Mesh StL
fame, the trio decided to audition a then- unknown singer
named Casey Walker. Although at first, a couple of the members
weren’t overjoyed with the idea, they finally motivated
themselves to actually jam with Walker, and once they did,
there was an immediate chemistry. Hobbs, Kemp and LaRoy
quickly changed their tune and invited the vocalist into
the band. And so, the infant days of a new vision were born.
Gigging and writing constantly
for all of 2001-2003, the band began to get noticed in the
hotbed
music scene of St. Louis. Around that time, the band came
to the conclusion that the needed another member to round
out their live sound… Enter guitarist Mike Tomas,
a longtime friend and former high school bandmate of drummer
Chad LaRoy. Now as a five-piece, Hollow, as they were then
called, decided that their name was too “hollow”
and changed it to CAVO, which incidentally is a variation
of Hollow in Latin, and decided to take on the world with
their music.
Presently, based on the
success of their debut EP,“A Space to Fill,”
which was recorded and mixed at Gertken & Criebaum’s
Trailer Studios, CAVO has their sights set on something
greater. With early support on the melodically charged first
single, “Say Again" and now, new-found local
fame from heavy airplay of their hot single, “Grounded,”
on St.Louis’ WVRV, this group of musicians is on a
mission…
To be more than just simple answers to these easy questions...
To get discovered… To be seen everywhere, to be heard
everywhere and to make a difference in the world of music…
No, it’s not that unique. But it is a solid beginning
of something great to come.
The ongoing story of CAVO.
Get used to the name…
