The story of Bottle of
Justus dates back to late 1997 when four college students
named Chris and Joe Quinlan (twin brothers), Jeff Johnson,
and Erik Bogdonas met at Illinois State University. None
of them would ever imagine the band would evolve into what
it is today.
Initially, the band played fraternity
parties for free beer but word about Bottle of Justus began
to spread. Eventually, their name became a mainstay on campus
and popularity of the band had grown beyond the campus of
I.S.U.
Soon there after, the band recorded
a low budget CD in 1999 called Sunday Midwestern Afternoon
(which sold out in 6 months). Although the CD is no longer
available, it helped pave the way for the success of the
band.
In early 2001, they released a more
polished CD called America Cries (no correlation with September
11th). America Cries was in the top 10 hot sellers list
for over a month on Awarestore.com. The single “Caroline
is Waiting” garnered success at commercial and college
radio stations across the nation.
Bottle of Justus (also known as BOJ)
then took their show to the road and began rocking audiences
across the nation. Notable shows include headlining the
House of Blues in Chicago, many festivals including Summerfest
in Milwaukee, and playing in front of 10,000 people opening
for the BoDeans.
Their latest release titled On Air
was recorded in Birmingham, AL and produced by Jason Elgin
(Creed, Collective Soul, Blue Epic, and Wayne). The three
CD release shows for On Air at the House of Blues in Chicago,
Canopy Club in Urbana, IL, and Daddios in Bloomington, IL
amassed a total of 2,500 screaming fans! The catchy single
“Try It Again” has received numerous amount
of radio airplay and is featured on the soundtrack for the
movie Winter Break (distributed by Universal).
The evolution has just begun.
